NEW STAFF - How to Setup One Drive on your Computer (Mac & Windows)
All Staff have access to 1TB of Cloud Storage. The service is provided by Microsoft and is called ‘One Drive’. You can use this service to save your AUB Files & Folders.
The latest version of OneDrive for Mac integrates into Finder, which makes it easier to access files in the Cloud. The PC version already has this feature enabled.
Any AUB Staff Mac client with Mojave installed will automatically get the new version of OneDrive as it is part of the build.
Please follow these steps to setup OneDrive.
1. Logon to your computer as yourself and launch OneDrive from the Applications folder (Mac) or the System Tray (PC).
2. Enter your AUB email address and click Sign In:
3. Choose Work or School/University:
4. Then you will be redirected to sign in at the AUB login page:
5. Here you will need to decide where the OneDrive folder should be located. The default location is the local user home folder. It is recommended that you use the default location:
6. The next step is to choose which files to sync. It is recommended to select all files and folders:
7. Initial setup is complete:
8. Now open the OneDrive preferences…:
Mac: Click once on the OneDrive toolbar menu, then click more and then Preferences.
Windows: Click once on the OneDrive icon in the System Tray, then click more and then Settings.
9. Very Important! Choose Turn On Files-On Demand. This makes all files available locally on your computer, but keeps the data in the cloud (so it will not use up hard drive space):
10. This completes the setup process.
Extra Information:
You can now add files to your OneDrive folder. Once they have been added, you can choose to keep them locally on your machine or free up space by uploading the data to the cloud. You can do this by Ctrl/Right-clicking the file or folder:
If you choose to the option ‘Always keep on this device’ this will mean that you will have a local copy saved to your machine and in OneDrive.
If you click ‘Free up space’ it will upload the selected files & folders to OneDrive. The Files & Folders will still be accessible but they are stored on the cloud and not locally on your machine, hence freeing up space on your computer.
